Chapter 57

He'd been thinking about leaving again, getting that same feeling he'd had a few months previous. His work permit was due to expire at the end of December so he decided he'd make his move then. No second thoughts this time. He spoke to his boss again to let him know of his plans. They weren't sure he'd have his permit extended again anyway. They'd pulled enough strings as it was.

As the end drew closer, unfortunately for him, his ex. had started turning up at his room more frequently. She'd made phone calls: "Is it OK if I come round?" she'd ask. It was nice to have her company but wasn't sure it was good for him or his mind. He'd seen her more in these past few weeks than he had for the previous four or five months. He thought that maybe he was falling in love with her again. He told her this.
"Don't be crazy. It's just up here." She pointed to her head. "You don't know what you're saying."
Maybe she was right but he also felt it in his heart. He didn't pursue the subject further, not wanting things to turn sour between them - she could have a short fuse sometimes - so he let it go and didn't mention it again.
