Chapter 31

Somewhere around 3am he woke up at the sound of someone coming into his room.
"I've come to sleep here," she said.
Feeling hazy after just waking up, this was a lot for him to take in. She'd come to stay the night without him asking, from her own free will.
"Cool, I'm feeling cold," was all he could say. It took time for them to get to sleep, and it was with a feeling of worth that he put his head on her shoulder and drifted off out of the world.
He woke in the morning to feel her arm wrapped around his waist. He tried not to wake her as he got out of bed. She opened her eyes a fraction and dreamily asked him where he was going. He told her he was hungry, needed something to eat and was going to the dining hall to get breakfast.

She was still in bed when he returned. The best thing would have been to get back into the bed with her, instead he made coffee, lit up a cigarette, sat in a chair and carried on with his stories of the past 5 months. He felt selfish doing all the talking and let her tell her side.
She got up and dressed not long after, then left for her parents' house.

That same Saturday night he was back at work - no time to rest or anything. He didn't mind, he was kind of looking forward to it anyway. He'd missed working in the bakery. Now he was back to work as Shift Manager for the packing department. 'Ha! Nice title,' he thought. There were two of them so he guessed he was actually Shift Co-Manager.
He was looking forward to finishing work this first night, going to bed and waking up in the afternoon to be with his loved one. They spent time together every afternoon of the whole of the following week, but things didn't seem right. He still didn't feel settled. Kind of out of sorts is how he would describe himself.
